A Beach Weekend Playlist

My wife and I are going to hang out at the beach this weekend. I’ve chosen our playlist for the ride very carefully:

Leading Off: Jack Johnson – Sleep Through the Static
Next: Angels and Airwaves – We Don’t Have to Whisper
Closing: Death Cab For Cutie – Narrow Stairs

I care deeply for each and every one of these CD’s. If you haven’t heard…

Listen to Death Cab For Cutie Narrow Stairs

UPDATE: Thanks to Sam, check out this interview on NPR’s Bryant Park Project with Death Cab. Enjoy, and thanks be to Sam!

Death Cab For Cutie Narrow Stairs This album is complex. Expect it to last. It’s going to take multiple listens to appreciate how good it really is. It think it…

Watch Death Cab For Cutie’s I Will Posess Your Heart

Well, awhile ago I mentioned Death Cab will be coming out with a new disc, and later I mentioned their new single. With the new album arriving next week (May 14), in case you haven’t heard the single “I Will Posses Your Heart” yet and you weren’t sure about whether you should buy new Death Cab, check out this video.

I’m not saying the video is great (I…

Jimmy Eat World’s Story & New Release

Jimmy is coming out with a new disc. It’s a deluxe edition of their previous release, “Bleed American.”

It’s a pretty cool story that brought forth Bleed American. Their previous disc, “Clarity” — which is my favorite album ever — had gotten them dropped from their record label, Capital Records. Rather than hanging it up, they bought up their remaining CD’s from their old label and then went…

Weather Matching Music – Stars

Stars - Up In Our Bedroom After the War

Today was a gorgeous day in DC. If I could’ve had a theme song that matched the feeling this weather gives you, it would probably be Stars’ Bitches in Tokyo.

This is off my favorite CD of 2007, Up In Our Bedroom After the War.

Have a listen:

Balun

I recently discovered these guys: Balun. So far, I think I’m digging it. I’m always down for finding new instrumental driven bands (Ratatat, Sigur Ros, Explosions in the Sky), and especially electronic based music. They do sing on some songs…and I don’t really like those tracks as much. If done well, this type of music can be the most fascinating music to listen…

Death Cab For Cutie’s New Single – I Will Posess Your Heart

So Death Cab released their first single off their new album, Narrow Stairs. It’s called I Will Possess Your Heart and it’s really, really good. It’s unlike anything off of Plans and much more similar to Photo Album. It’s dark, and it’s an instrumental for the first three minutes or so, then the singing begins…

Ratatat

Ratatat

These guys are amazing. My friend Phil accurately described Ratatat when he said they have a way that “makes you feel like you’re in your own secret world, and you know something no one else knows.” Phil also introduced them to me, so thanks to Phil.

I’ve been looking for…

Copeland – Dressed Up & In Line

copeland dressed up and in line

Copeland continues to rank in my top five with each and every new piece of music they produced. Listen to this song if you’re in a chill and reflective mood.

I am always skeptical of the discs bands put out music that contain alternate versions including three new songs. That is usually just code for crappy versions with
