Anberlin keeps pumping out the music. Their new Album, “New Surrender” arrives September 30th. While I’m excited to hear it, I’m a bit worried for a few reasons.
1) They are being produced by Neal Avron (Fall Out Boy, Yellowcard, New Found Glory). All of those bands I don’t like, and none of them really fit with Anberlin’s sound, in my opinion. That doesn’t mean they’ll suddenly sound pop-punk; but I’m interested to see how the new album sounds.
2) They left Tooth & Nail for Universal Republic. I love seeing bands grow, and if that’s what it takes; then kudos to them. However, in my opinion, Anberlin’s first album was still their best — and I would argue that album had the strongest “Tooth & Nail” sound of all three albums.
Nevertheless, I’m sure the new album will be rad, and I really do hope they get even more famous. Their music is full of hope, and I would love more people to be exposed to that in the music industry.
The move to the new label also explains why they’re re-releasing the song “Feel Good Drag” from “Never Take Friendship Personally” as their first single on “New Surrender.”
I would let you listen to the original “Feel Good Drag” but I mistakenly bought it on iTunes, so I can’t do anything but stare at it–another reason to never buy music on iTunes and use the Amazon mp3 store instead.
Instead, check out the epic track, “*Fin” off “Cities” (also on the mixtape):

Check out another new track entitled “Disappear” on Anberlin’s Purevolume page.
And, check out their (hilariously bad) video blog from lead singer Stephen Christian on YouTube and a few more on AbsolutePunk.com.
